Running in a Winter Wonderland

Oh my goodness! Today's run was soooooo difficult! 11+ miles in 6-8 inch deep snow. I am grateful to be healthy enough to endure it, but not crazy enough to do it again anytime soon. My body is worn out - especially after yesterday's 16+ mile repentance run (I LOVE THANKSGIVING!!!). But, as you can see, winter has officially come to our little neck of the woods. Time to find some cross-training opportunities? It's definitely time to go back to the nice, warm yoga studio!

Transitions

Our not-so-slow transition from fall to winter. These pictures were all taken over the last three weeks. Fall seems to have been very brief this year, but perhaps it will come back. Today marked the first snow run of the season and I am anticipating that there will be many more. I am glad for the Gore-tex shoes that keep my feet warm and dry, but I'm not diggin' all of the clothing I have to wear for winter running! Ah, the sacrifices we runners make! Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the photos. There are some gorgeous ones in here.

P.S. Have I mentioned that I live in an absolutely gorgeous place???

Hood to Coast Movie

A documentary about the Hood to Coast relay - which I enjoyed in 2009 and will run again in 2011 - is being released. I can't wait to see it! The relay is such an interesting, intense, and beautiful experience!

I just bought my tickets for the big release event on 1/11/11. Hope to see some friends there!

Mind Games

Thanks to my friend, Ray, for posting a link to this video on FB. I think it's important that we realize that it's hard for everyone to get out of bed (or up from the couch or out of the office) to run every day. It's not easy. And it's not easy to keep running. But it's worth it. Why? Because it makes us feel better physically, cognitively, and emotionally. Because it helps us be better individuals. It helps us solve problems. It helps us develop patience. It helps us figure out who we are.

Enjoy!

Another Misty Morning

Wow! This morning was so beautiful! It was pitch dark when I started running (is it sad that the only reason I know the constellation Orion is back in the sky is because I see it when I get up?), with just a sliver of moon and the tiniest hint of sunrise over the eastern mountains. Over my 5+-mile run, the morning developed into a glinting misty paradise. If I didn't have to work today, I'd head for the mountains. This is about as perfect as it gets!
